The Consultation Team

South Bay DBT Associates is a consultation team of independent practitioners. Each team member is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice or an intern under supervision provided by Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. The purpose of the affiliation is limited to consultation, clinical feedback, resource and referral sharing, and ongoing training. The consultation team is not a business entity in any way. Each practitioner on the team is either in individual private practice, employed by another organization, or a student in training.

The Consultation Team has received one of the highest levels of training offered for Dialectical Behavior Therapy from Behavioral Tech, LLC of Seattle, Washington. As a consultation team, we share a vision of quality care for our clients based on the sound, clinically-proven principals of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and a commitment to ongoing research and training. We believe Dialectical Behavior Therapy has tremendous potential to help a variety of mental health difficulties. We are committed to maintaining the program’s integrity as it was designed by DBT founder Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., and to facilitating an ongoing dialogue about its application in new and different ways.

Melinda Carlisle, M.A

Consultation Team Leader


Melinda is an Intensively Trained DBT Therapist and Skills Trainer, trained by Behavioral Tech, LLC www.behavioraltech.com. She formed the South Bay DBT consultation team to provide advanced support/guidance for clients in her full-time private practice in San Jose, CA, www.criticalpathcounseling.com. She works with a variety of clients with serious mood disorders to help them develop and maintain stable relationships. She is a Certified Process Therapist with extensive experience working with clients in addiction recovery programs, clients with Bipolar disorder or Panic Disorder, and couples with co-occurring mood disorders.

In addition, Melinda is president of CriticalPath Consulting, an organizational development and leadership development firm, www.criticalpathcounseling.com. With over 15 years of experience working in management and as a consultant to technology companies, Melinda is developing a unique program of DBT skills training for business executives and their teams.

Patti Dolan, M.A
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, MFC42632

Patti is an Intensively Trained DBT Therapist and Skills Trainer, trained by Behavioral Tech, LLC. Patti has extensive experience with clients suffering from severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder in a forensic outpatient setting. Many of her clients have been dually diagnosed with substance abuse disorders and personality disorders, particularly borderline personality disorder. In addition, through her work at the YWCA, she has developed expertise in treating victims of rape and incest. She has a strong interest in art therapy and adolescents and is planning to further develop that modality into our customized DBT programs.

Maria Boklund, M.A

Maria is an Intensively Trained DBT Therapist and Trainer, trained by Behavioral Tech, LLC.A native of Northern California, Maria’s clinical interests include Mindfulness Skills, Cognitive-Behavioral Group Therapy, and treating clients with complex personality and mood disorders. She has over five years of DBT experience and ten years of intensive group process. She earned her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University with a dual emphasis in Career Development and Marriage and Family Therapy. Maria is an MFT intern with Almaden Valley Counseling Service in South San Jose.

Prior to her counseling career, Maria worked for high-tech Silicon Valley companies in various marketing capacities as a writer and editor, , event planner, crisis communications and database marketer. She combines her business experience and counseling skills in helping working professionals identify their personal and professional goals while creating the often elusive goal of maintaining Work-Life balance.

Laura Johnson
Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee

Laura Johnson is a counseling psychology student at Santa Clara University with a dual emphasis in Health Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy. Laura’s graduate training includes mindfulness-based stress reduction, positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy and group counseling. Laura has been intensively trained as a DBT Therapist and Skills Trainer by Behavioral Tech, LLC. Laura begins her practicum at the YWCA’s clinic and school-based program working with adults, adolescents and families in the Fall of 2007.

Before her career in psychotherapy, Laura held managerial roles in marketing and community relations at leading technology and financial services companies in the Bay Area and on the East Coast. Laura holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and a B.A. in Communication from the University of Miami.

Collins Tse, PsyD
Licensed Psychologist (PSY 21063)

Collins’ clinical work spans across a wide range of organizational settings, such as academic institutions, research, managed care, and business. Her clinical experience includes conducting comprehensive intake assessments, crisis interventions, and providing bilingual, individual, and group psychotherapy to individuals with mood, anxiety, psychotic, substance abuse, and personality disorders. Other clinical experience includes providing in-home and group base manualized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatment interventions to help older adults with dementia and family members to reduce care giving stress.

Currently Collins works at Momentum for Mental Health, a community based outpatient mental health agency, as a Program Manager & Clinical Supervisor, providing leadership, training & development, clinical supervision, and consultation to staff and interns.

Collins obtained her Doctorate of Psychology in 2003 from the California School of Professional Psychology. Prior to moving to California in 1997, Collins was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Toronto and Montreal, Canada. She is bilingual in Chinese, and has a strong passion for utilizing her bilingual and multicultural experiences in her work providing culturally competent care and mental health services.
The South Bay DBT Associates is a team of independent practitioners who are not associated as a business entity in any way. Each team member is a licensed, sole practitioner or is a marriage and family therapist intern or trainee under supervision by licensed MFTs.
